Baseball Falls Late at Sacred Heart on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team was unable to hold off Sacred Heart and lost 7-5 on Saturday in Bridgeport, CT. The Blue Devils led in the eighth inning, but the Pioneers would manage to score two runs and rally for the win.
The series concludes with a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils would open the scoring with four runs in the top of the third inning. Brady Short led off with a walk and moved to third following a single by Dan Hussey and an SHU error. A single by Jeff Nicol plated the first run and a walk would load the bases. Elliot Good hit a single to make it 2-0 before a two-out single by Michael Torniero drove in two more runs to make it 4-0.
- The Pioneers would get one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning before going ahead with a four-run fifth inning. SHU would put runners on second and third with two outs and Zack Kovalchick singled in two runs. Following a pitching change, back to-back singles by Tim McQuire and Alex Ungar each scored a run to make it 5-4.
- In the top of the eighth, Torniero would single with one-out. After a groundout advanced the runner, Short singled to right-center and tied the game at 5-5.
- SHU would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning. McGuire led off with a single and after a pair of groundouts moved him to third, Joey Skarad would triple to drive in a run before scoring on a single by John Greene to make it 7-5.

- CCSU leads the all-time series, 60-45.
- The Blue Devils were limited to one run on four hits after their four-run, four-hit third inning.
- Torniero was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
- Hussey had three hits, while Good added two.
- Central collected 10 singles in the game.
- Luke Garofalo started for CCSU and did not figure in the decision. He had six strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
