Central was among 275 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA that were recognized for their work in the classroom. The IWLCA bestowed the Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad honor to programs that posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the 2015-16 academic year. The Blue Devils also earned the honor in 2014-15.
In order to be eligible for the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. This season, Malecki and Murphy were among 301 student-athletes to earn the recognition.
The honor is the latest for Malecki who was honored earlier in the spring for having the highest GPA among CCSU female student-athletes. A criminology/psychology major, she was also a member of the Northeast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll. She played in all 16 games for the Blue Devils and posted five goals and five assists this season.
Murphy earned All-NEC Second Team honors this season. She played in all 16 games and helped the CCSU defense rank fifth in the league in goals against average in league play (10.20). She collected 28 ground balls and had 12 caused turnovers. In the classroom, the communications major was named to the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
