Morabito Named NEC Indoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete Of The Year
The Blue Devils had 87 student-athletes recognized on Thursday for their academic achievement.
Central Connecticut track and field distance runner Brooke Morabito continued the Blue Devil tradition of Scholar-Athlete honors on Thursday. The Blue Devil distance standout was named the 2024 Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete for women's indoor track and field. The conference also released its winter Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Honor Roll recipients, which included 50 CCSU student-athletes on the academic list and 87 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, representing CCSU men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field and women's swimming and diving. In athletic competition, those three teams captured three NEC trophies, with women's indoor track and field and women's swimming and diving winning their respective championships, and men's basketball capturing the regular season crown.

Morabito, a New Milford, CT native, collected Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) plaudits to help the Blue Devils seal their third straight NEC title. The New Milford High School product earned gold medals in both the 3000m and 5000m, and registered a second-place finish in the mile to pile up 28 of CCSU's 125 points at the meet. She was also a part of the Blue Devils' gold medal-winning distance medley relay team. Morabito posted the top times in the conference this season in both the 3,000m and 5,000m, both of which ranked in the top-100 nationally. Named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll for the fifth time, Morabito also earned NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition this winter. After compiling a 3.64 grade point average as an undergraduate majoring in Psychological Science, she currently maintains a 4.0 GPA while pursuing her Master's in Counselor Education.
All scholar-athlete honorees must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Winter Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 811 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average. There were also 309 student-athletes named to the Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average. That figure was the fourth-most in league annals.
