Volleyball Recognized With NEC Team Academic Award
The Northeast Conference announced its latest round of academic awards on Friday, and the Central Connecticut volleyball team was recognized with the highest GPA among the league's competing volleyball programs. The conference recognized the teams with the best GPA in each sport, along with announcing the overall Institutional Academic Award.
Central won the NEC Team Academic Award for the second time in program history and the Blue Devils achieved a team GPA of 3.748, which was the fourth-best mark among the league's 24 Team Academic Award winners. CCSU was also one of eight team winners to post a cumulative team GPA above 3.7. The Blue Devils had 11 members of its volleyball program recognized on the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.75 or better GPA, while 13 members of the team had a GPA of at least 3.20. Overall, Central's 16 teams compiled an overall GPA of 3.14, which marks the fifth consecutive year that CCSU's student-athletes have posted a cumulative grade point average above 3.0.
The NEC's more-than 4,000 student-athletes achieved a 3.306 grade point average, which is the fourth-highest mark in league history. Sacred Heart was recognized with the NEC Institutional Academic Award for the second straight year, compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.45.
