Mallory Named CDS Preseason FCS All-American

Central Connecticut running back James Mallory was recently named a 2009 Preseason FCS All-American by Consensus Draft Services. Mallory, who totaled 1,520 yards in an award-filled junior season, received honorable mention status heading into his senior campaign.

In 2008, Mallory became the second player in CCSU history to eclipse the 1,500-yard mark in a single season and the seventh player in program history to record a 1,000-yard season. The Buffalo, NY native, who scored a team-best 15 touchdowns, also became the 14th player in school history to record 100 career points. For his efforts, Mallory earned All-Northeast Conference second team honors and a spot on the FCS All-New England team as selected by the New England Football Writers.

Mallory started his junior campaign with a 256-yard, two touchdown performance at home against Bryant. His 94-yard touchdown run against the Bulldogs stood as the longest rushing play in FCS during 2008, while the 256 yards ranked tied for the seventh most in a single game. Mallory went on to produce 100-yard efforts in each of CCSU's first four games and nine of the 11 on the season. He finished the year ranked fourth in the nation in rushing, averaging 138.2 yards per game. Central Connecticut ranked seventh in the nation in rushing offense.

With his 1,520-yard season, Mallory moved into sixth place on CCSU's all-time rushing leaderboard. He has 1,893 career yards, putting him 107 shy of becoming just the fourth player in program history to reach 2,000 yards and 1,454 yards away from Stan House's program-best 3,347 career yards.

Central Connecticut, which last year went 7-4 for its fifth straight winning season, will open the 2009 campaign at Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 5. The game is slated to start at 12:30 p.m.
