Softball Falls 3-2 In NEC Tournament
Blue Devils will play the winner of the 1:00 pm game between FDU and LIU at 4:00 pm on Saturday
Second-seeded Saint Francis U scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally to defeat Central Connecticut State softball in the winners bracket game of the Northeast Conference Tournament Saturday morning in Brooklyn, NY. The Blue Devils will play the winner of the 1:00 pm game between top-seeded LIU and third-seeded FDU in a 4:00 pm elimination game.
Addie Smith led off the bottom of the seventh for the Red Flash with a solo homerun, the first hit that Liz Hamilton had allowed on the afternoon. She retired the next two batters before AB Cipalla singled to left center. The next batter Z Nussbaum won the game for SFU, with a homerun.
The Blue Devils built a run in the top of the fourth, when Ava Cino ledoff with a single. She advanced to third when Grace Lawton reached on an error by the SFU pitcher. Ashley Viesta singled through the right side in the next at-bat to score Cino for the 1-0 lead.
CCSU added a run in the top of the seventh, with Viesta singling up the middle to leadoff, and moving to second on an Abby Meehan sacrifice. Skylar Warn followed with an RBI double for the 2-0 lead.
NOTES
- Viesta finished the game 2-2, as the Blue Devils knocked out six hits.
- Both teams left five runners on base
- Hamilton fanned three and allowed three runs on three hits in 6.2 innings
