Women's Golf Wins at IUPUI Over Weekend
Blue Devils finished first of the four teams with 10 points
The Central Connecticut women's golf team dropped its Saturday match to host IUPUI 3-2, but took first place in the match play event over the two-day span this weekend. The Blue Devils claimed the weekend title, scoring 10 total points in the three matches. The University of Wisconsin Green Bay scored eight points, followed by IUPUI with 7.5 and Valparaiso with 4.5 points on the weekend.
Sophomore Ella Williams won in dominating fashion on Sunday, winning 6 and 5, by posting a 37 on the front nine and then starting the back nine 4-4-2-4 to win three of four holes and earn the victory.
Classmate Kaitlyn Stoddart also won on Saturday with a 3 and 2 victory over her opponent. She shot a 39 on the front nine and entered the back nine up two holes. A 5 on the 14th hole and then back to back 4's on 15 and 16 earned her the victory.
Freshman Cecy Gutierrez lost her match on the final hole. She shot 38 on the front and 41 on the back nine for a round of 79. Classmate Tara Whelan dropped her match 2 and 1 after shooting an 82, with a 41 on both the front and back nine.
Junior Sarah Boden dropped her match 3 and 2 and shot a 79 on the day. She shot 40 on the front and 39 on the back.
The Blue Devils will now travel to Daytona Beach, FL from April 24-26 for the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships. The championships are being played at LPGA International Golf Course.
