Katie Souviney begins her third season as an assistant
coach for the men’s and women’s track and field
teams. Souviney works primarily with the hurdlers, long
sprinters, throwers and multi event athletes.
During her first season with CCSU, the men’s team won its first ever NEC Indoor Conference Title and the coaching staff was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year. Her athletes broke four school records and Souviney had numerous athletes place at the conference meets. She also had one athlete qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championship.
Prior to coaching at CCSU, Souviney spent two years coaching at the University of Maine. In 2010, the Maine coaching staff was named America East Coaching Staff of the Year. At Maine, Souviney was responsible for the recruitment and coaching of the hurdlers, high jumpers and multi event athletes. During her two years coaching at Maine she coached athletes to thirteen All-Conference performances, eight All-New England performances, one school record, one USA Track and Field Junior National qualifier and forty two Top 10 Performances in UMaine history.
As a student-athlete Souviney served as captain of the Maine track team during her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. She held seven school records at UMaine (100m hurdles, 60m hurdles, 60yd hurdles, pentathlon, heptathlon, 4x400m Relay and Sprint Medley Relay), was a seven time All-America East Selection and qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championship in the 100m hurdles. She was a recipient of the UMaine Scholar-Athlete award all four years of her career.
Souviney received her bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in exercise physiology from UMaine. She currently
holds a USTFCCCA Throws Specialist Certification, Level Two
Coaching Certification in the jumps, and is a Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist.
