White Tops Blue in Annual Spring Game on Friday; 2010 Captains Named
The white team topped the blue squad 28-7 on Friday afternoon at the annual Central Connecticut State University Spring Football game at Arute Field. Junior transfer quarterback Gunnar Jesperson was named the game's Most Valuable Player after going 25-for-41 for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. The Blue Devils open the 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at New Hampshire at 12 noon. They will play five home games during the 2010 season. The home opener will come on Sept. 11 vs. Bentley.

game at Arute Field. Junior transfer quarterback Gunnar Jesperson

Blue Devils open the 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at New

The white team got on the board first with a long drive in the
first quarter. Jesperson ran it in from seven-yards out for the
score, capping a 10-play, 74-yard drive. Senior transfer Everett
Benjamin had a pair of runs for 26 yards on the drive.
The white team built the lead to 14-0 with 6:42 to play before
halftime. Jesperson hit junior Josue Paul with a 39-yard touchdown
pass for the touchdown. Jesperson hit Paul with a pair of passes
on the drive, good for 58 yards. Junior Brian Fowler rushed three
times for 22 yards on the scoring drive.
Jesperson threw his second touchdown of the afternoon, this time to
junior P.J. Borawski from 26-yards out. Jesperson was 4-for-4 for
59 yards and the touchdown on the drive. It took five plays and
made the scored 21-0 in favor of the white team.
The third touchdown pass of the day for the junior college transfer
made the score 28-0 in favor of the white team. He hit freshman
Matt Tyrell from 42-yards out for the score.
The Blue team got on the board with a 16-yard scoring strike from
freshman Jake White to freshman Anthony Julbes on a screen pass.
The score capped a quick 60-yard drive highlighted by a 3-for-3
effort from White.
Fowler rushed 11 times for 60 yards in the game. Hofstra transfer
Everett Benjamin ran the ball 10 times for 51 yards in his first
action for the Blue Devils. Paul had 89 yards receiving to lead
all receivers.
The Blue Devils were presented their 2009 Northeast Conference
Championship rings prior to the game. Head Coach Jeff McInerney
stood at midfield and handed each player, coach and member of the
support staff their ring. The ring features the word OUTRIGHT on
the top, along with the CC logo in blue. The outright represents
the first outright championship that CCSU has won in football in
the NEC. They shared the NEC title in 2004 and 2005. The ring
along features the name of the recipient and 7-1 league record
Central posted in 2009.
At halftime the Blue Devils and McInerney announced the captains
for the 2010 season. Central will have five captains next season,
three from the defensive side of the ball and two on offense.
Defensively seniors Dominique Rose, Alondre Rush and Jeff Marino
will be captains. Offensively seniors Mike Allison, offensive
line, and Fowler will guide the Blue Devils next season.
Central opens the 2010 season on the road at New Hampshire on Sept.
