Barnum Earns NEC Special Teams Player Of The Week
CCSU newcomer was 3-3 in field goals and 5-5 on PAT's
Central Connecticut football's Jack Barnum earned Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Devils season opening win on Saturday. Davion Johnson was named an NEC Prime Performer as well.
Barnum also received honorable mention FedEx Ground FCS Special Teams recognition.
Barnum went a perfect 8-8 in the kicking game connecting on all three of his field goal attempts. His first field goal was good from 48 yards and following a 31-yard effort midway through the first-half, he was good from 45-yards as the half came to a close.
The 48-yard make by Barnum to open the scoring, is the longest field goal by a Blue Devils since Francis Cole hit from 45-yards on October 12, 2019. It is the first game for CCSU with two 40+ yard field goals since September 7, 2019, and the first time a Blue Devil has done that in his program debut since at least 2000. Additionally, Barnum is the first Blue Devil with three field goal makes in a game since Joe Zoppi did so November 20, 2021.
Johnson was an integral part of the Blue Devils offense in his CCSU debut. He led the way with 156 yards of total offense, averaging over 17 yards a touch. He caught six passes for 103 yards and carried the ball three times for 53 yards.
The Blue Devils, 1-0, are back in action on Saturday, when they host Stonehill at 12:00 pm.
