Women's Soccer Opens 2009 Season with 1-0 Win Over Siena
Senior Leah Blayney scored the lone goal and classmate Caity Casey posted her seventh career shutout as the Central Connecticut State University women's soccer team opened up the 2009 season with a 1-0 win over Siena College on Friday afternoon. The game was part of the TDBanknorth Classic being played at the University of Vermont. The Blue Devils, now 1-0-0 this season, will play the host Catamounts on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Siena College on Friday afternoon. The game was part of the
TDBanknorth Classic being played at the University of Vermont. The
Blue Devils, now 1-0-0 this season, will play the host Catamounts
on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Blayney, the leading returning scorer for the Blue Devils this
season, scored in the first half to give the Blue Devils the early
lead. Her goal came at 16:18 as she sent the ball past the Siena
keeper from 20 yards out. Last season she had seven goals,
including five game-winners, for the Northeast Conference champion
Devils. Junior Erica Celini assisted on the
goal.
Casey, who posted a pair of shutouts in her junior season, now has
seven for her career. She made eight starts a year ago and posted
a goals against average of 1.29.
Casey made three saves in the victory, all in the first half.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sunday playing Vermont beginning at 1:30 p.m.
