Blue Devils Open Northeast Conference Play with 3-2 Win Over Quinnipiac
The Central Connecticut State University women's soccer team opened Northeast Conference play on Sunday with a 3-2 win over visiting Quinnipiac. CCSU, now 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in league action. Three different Blue Devils scored a goal in the game and senior goalkeeper Caity Casey recorded six saves in the victory. CCSU returns to action on Friday night at Bryant at 7 p.m.

visiting Quinnipiac. CCSU, now 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in league
action. Three different Blue Devils scored a goal in the game and
senior goalkeeper Caity Casey recorded six
saves in the victory. CCSU returns to action on Friday night at
Bryant at 7 p.m.
The Blue Devils took 1-0 lead when freshman Erin
Egan scored her first career goal. Egan took a pass from Beth
Lloyd, and took a long shot from about 30 yards out on the left
side. Her shot sailed over the head of Quinnipiac keeper Kendra
Marguiles and gave the Blue Devils the early advantage at
14:45.
The Bobcats scored their first goal on a penalty kick. Following
the foul call in the box, Furtuna Velaj beat Casey to even the
score at one.
In the second half, the Blue Devils benefited from a penalty kick
of their own to take a one goal lead. Following the call on CCSU's
Brittany Emin in the box as
she approached the goal, teammate Clio Tregear sent the
penalty kick to the back of the net to give CCSU the 2-1 lead at
57:14. The goal was the fourth of the season for Tregear.
Senior Leah Blayney made it a two goal advantage at 70:30 when she
scored on a deep shot of her own. She took a pass from Ciara
Crinion at the top left corner of the box and beat Margulies in
the top left corner. It was her fifth goal of the season, that
leads the team.
Quinnipiac scored at 86:17 off a corner kick and cut the lead to
one. Kemesha Woodfine took the corner from Susan Donovan and beat
Casey for the 3-2 score.
CCSU held a 16-8 advantage in total shots in the game. Casey made
six saves to post her third victory of the season. Quinnipiac held
a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Central returns to action on Friday night at Bryant beginning at 7
p.m.
