Blue Devils Move Up To 6th After Day Two of ECACs

After two days of competition at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Central Connecticut is in sixth place with 216 points heading into final day action on Sunday. Six different individuals scored points in three events, while both Blue Devil relays finished in the top six to keep CCSU in the hunt as they try to defend their ECAC Title at Harvard University.

In a strange occurrence in the 400 individual medley, senior Heather Vendetta and sophomore Megan McGorry finished in exactly the same time, 4:33.81. The two swimmers tied for fifth place in the event and received 13.5 points a piece.

In the first event of the evening, the CCSU 200 medley relay team placed sixth in a time of 1:47.65. The team was comprised of freshmen Alex Czaplicki and Kristen Malski as well as McGorry and senior Erin Crowley.

Czaplicki and Crowley both scored points in the 200 freestyle later in the night as the freshman took home third place and the senior finished sixth. Czaplicki and Crowley recorded times of 1:52.52 and 1:53.55, respectively.

Malski and sophomore Alyssa Carlucci also placed in the same event as Malski was sixth and Carlucci 12th in the 100 breaststroke. Malski recorded a time of 1:06.24, while Carlucci touched in at 1:07.58.

In the final event of the night the Blue Devil 800 free relay team of Crowley, Czaplicki, McGorry and Vendetta took home fourth place with a time of 7:39.83.

Central Connecticut will begin final day of competition trailing the host Crimson by 117 points. Preliminary heats begin at 9:00 a.m. with finals to start at 4:00 p.m. The Blue Devils and all other teams in competition on Sunday will be swimming the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and the 400 free relay. The one-meter diving event will also be taking place.
