Second Half Goals Sink Men's Soccer at Howard
A trio of goals allowed in the second half sank the Central Connecticut men's soccer team in its Northeast Conference opener at Howard on Sunday in Washington, DC. After the Blue Devils leveled the game just before halftime, the Bison came back with three goals in the second half to pull away.
The Blue Devils host Mercyhurst in a Northeast Conference tilt on Thursday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Howard opened the scoring just past halfway in the opening period. After a long ball was played over the CCSU defense and fell to Jackson Lewis, he made a move towards goal and slipped his shot home to make it 1-0.
- Central would go on the attack and have a pair of chances in the 29th minute. Ethan Agyare Danso would have a shot stopped and then the Blue Devils would draw a foul, resulting in a penalty kick. The kick would go off target however and keep the score unchanged.
- The Blue Devils would get redemption just past 30 minutes into the game. After playing a corner kick, the ball would come to Will Starker who lofted a cross to the far corner. Taichi Yamada got his head to the ball and directed it in just under the crossbar to make it 1-1.
- Howard went ahead just after halftime when it got the ball on a counter-attack. Mason Christian sent a cross from the right wing to the far post where Peter Gansallo was able to tap the ball in to make it 2-1.
- In the 67th minute, Jackson Lewis got to a long ball behind the CCSU defense. He dribbled into the box and slipped a pass past the goalkeeper to Christian who kicked it home to make it 3-1.
- The Bison tacked on a goal with just four minutes to play when Zach Simmons evaded the Central defense and kicked in his first goal of the season.

13 – Central had a season-high 13 saves in the game.
NOTES
- CCSU is 3-2-1 against Howard and the teams have split meetings across the past four seasons.
- Yamada and Starker each collected their first points of the season on the CCSU goal.
- Arnau Rabassa Guillamon had a team-high six shots in the game.
- Mick Sipples made 12 saves for Central in goal.
