Erickson 2-for-2 in Blue Devil Loss Versus Cornell at Mason Invitational
Junior Tiffany Erickson went 2-for-2, and classmate Jaclyn Logan had an RBI double to lead Central Connecticut (0-2) in a 2-1 loss against Cornell (3-0) at the Mason Invitational hosted by George Mason.
Junior Tiffany Erickson went 2-for-2, and classmate Jaclyn Logan had an RBI double to lead Central Connecticut (0-2) in a 2-1 loss against Cornell (3-0) at the Mason Invitational hosted by George Mason.
After three scoreless innings, Central Connecticut put the first run on the board. Erickson led off the top of the fourth with a walk and scored on Logan's RBI double. Sophomore starter Elizabeth Montemurro held the CCSU lead through five innings.
The Big Red went ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Alyson Intihar got on base with a one-out single. Montemurro notched her third strikeout to make it two down with Intihar on first and junior Ashley Garvey coming to the plate. Garvey put the Big Red in front with one swing, hitting a two-run home run. Montemurro retired the side with her third strikeout of the inning, but the Blue Devil offense could not force Cornell to the plate in the seventh.
Montemurro pitched a complete game six-hitter with four strikeouts in her first appearance of the season. Erickson and Logan combined for the only three hits off Cornell freshman Lauren Marx.
Central Connecticut will continue play tomorrow morning at 9:30 against the host Patriots. The Blue Devils will also face Niagara at 2 p.m.
