Army senior Erin McClain singled to left field in the second inning of game one, and she came around to score the contest's only run. A sacrifice bunt moved McClain to second. She went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by junior Cassie Ellington. McClain's single was the final hit Montemurro would allow for the remainder of the game. However, the Blue Devils managed just three hits off Black Knight freshman starter Beverly Nordin.
Army took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game two. Freshman Rachael Duval extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the fourth, and the Black Knights added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Senior Rachel Brenneman allowed the four runs on seven hits while striking out six. Junior Jessi Muckelroy scattered four hits, two versus Sours, with six strikeouts for Army. Koehler and Brenneman had the other two Blue Devil hits. McClain and freshman Clara Navarro each doubled in the win.
Central Connecticut will play a pair of Northeast Conference doubleheaders this weekend. Long Island will welcome the Blue Devils for two on Saturday, Apr. 18 beginning at 1 p.m. CCSU then heads to Staten Island for two games against Wagner at noon on Sunday, Apr. 19.
