Blue Devils Win Third Place Game at Capital Classic, Defeat Host Delaware State 3-2
Central Connecticut (3-7) defeated host Delaware State (8-8), 3-2, in the third place game at the Capital Classic. Sophomore Elizabeth Montemurro scattered nine hits and struck out two in a complete game win. Sophomore Kendall Sours had a two-run single for the Blue Devils, while classmate Katherine Knowles drove in a run with a single.

The Blue Devils put up the first run in the fourth inning. Junior Jaclyn Logan doubled and then scored on an RBI single by Knowles. CCSU added two runs in the fifth on Sours's two-run single.
Delaware State scored a run in the sixth and seventh to make it 3-2. After cutting the deficit to 3-1 in the sixth, the Hornets left a runner stranded on third with one out. Freshman Tawny Reeger homered in the seventh, but the solo shot would be all DSU could get.
Montemurro improved to 3-2 on the season. Junior Brittany Ruark gave up just three run on three hits in the loss. She is now 5-2 on the year. Junior Jo Jo Shields led the Hornet offense with a 3-for-3 day. She had two doubles. Reeger added two hits, including the home run.
Central Connecticut will head to California next weekend for the St. Mary's Invitational. The Blue Devils open play with games against Canisius and Idaho State on Friday, March 20. They face Canisius at 1 p.m. and Idaho State at 3 p.m.
