Prior to the game the Blue Devils honored their three seniors,
Hannah Bromley, Erin Herd and Jill Kusek, who were playing their
final regular season home game on the CCSU Soccer Field.
The Blue Devils struck first just 8:40 into the first half to take
the early advantage. Following a pair of shots by freshman
Brittany Jackson and junior Karise Hilt that hit the cross bar, the
Blue Devils took the rebound just to the left side of the goal.
Junior Rachel Caneen fed Jackson in front of the goal for her third
goal of the season and the 1-0 lead for the home team.
The Knights knotted the score with a penalty kick off a hand ball
in the box by the Blue Devils. Rashidah Sherman scored her seventh
goal of the season for the Knights at 30:58 to even the score at
one.
Less than eight minutes later the Blue Devils offense struck again
as the home team took a 2-1 lead. Hilt drove to the left side of
the box and fed sophomore Clio Tregear in front of the goal for her
sixth goal of the season and the one goal lead.
CCSU held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the first half including a
4-3 edge in shots on goal. Herd had two saves in the first half,
the one goal allowed was off the penalty kick. Knight keeper
Rachel Derrico also made a pair of saves before the break.
Just 30 seconds into the second half Caneen scored her seventh goal
of the year to up the Blue Devil lead to 3-1. Caneen scored on a
breakaway as she pulled away from the Knight defense to begin the
second half.
Caneen's second goal of the game upped the lead to 4-1 in favor of
the home team. She took a feed from sophomore Erica Celini to
record her second multi-goal game of the season. Hilt finished the
scoring when she took a corner from sophomore Beth Lloyd and scored
the fifth goal of the match with under a minute to play.
The Blue Devils are in action again on Wednesday night on the road
at Yale beginning at 7 p.m. They will play their final regular
season game on the road on Sunday, November 2 at Quinnipiac at 1
p.m.
