Football Falls in Opener at Stony Brook
The Central Connecticut football team opened its 2012 campaign with a 49-17 loss on the road at 17th ranked Stony Brook on Saturday night. The loss drops Central to 0-1, the Seawolves are 1-0 to begin the season. Central returns to action at home next Saturday, hosting 16th ranked Lehigh beginning at 12 p.m. at the newly renovated Arute Field.

Junior quarterback Andrew Clements rushed for a career-high 103 yards in the loss, he scored a pair of touchdowns. The Blue Devils rushed for 152 yards in the loss.
The Seawolves used several big plays to help build the first half lead. At one point they scored on three-straight plays to make the score 21-0 in the first quarter. They outgained the Blue Devils more than 2:1 in the victory. The Seawolves were ranked 17th in the country entering the game.
The Seawolves struck first after the first miscue of the ball game from the Blue Devils. Central punter Greg Migdal fielded a low snap with his knee on the ground at his own four yard line, and on the next play Stony Brook running back Markus Coker ran four yards for the first score of the game.
After a three-and-out from the Blue Devils the Seawolves struck on their next play from scrimmage, an 89-yard scoring pass, to take a 14-0 lead with 7:40 left in the first quarter. The scoring play went from Kyle Essington to Kevin Norell.
Central picked up a pair of first downs on its next drive, but was again forced to punt. Stony Brook then scored on its third straight play, this time from 84-yards, on a run from Miguel Maysonet.
The Blue Devils got on the board for the first time on the night on a 37-yard field goal from captain Juan Duque with 9:42 left before halftime.
The lead was cut to 21-10 following the first touchdown of the season for the Blue Devils. Clements rushed from 28-yards out to cap an eight-play drive following an intercption by Central freshman Aaron Berardino. Stony Brook answered with a scoring drive just before halftime, pushing the lead to 28-10.
The Blue Devils drove to the Stony Brook 20-yardline on their first drive of the second half, but on fourth down a fake field goal pass attempt went incomplete. The Seawolves responded with a long touchdown drive to stretch the lead to 35-10.
Following a fumble on the next Blue Devil drive, Stony Brook scored for the second time in the half and made it 42-10. Essington threw for his third touchdown of the game to stretch the lead for the Seawloves.
Clements ran for his second touchdown of the game, this time from 50-yards out, to cut the lead to 42-17 with 13:11 left in the fourth quarter. Clements went over 100 yards on the run, matching his yardage total from all of last season.
The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday in its home opener vs. 16th ranked Lehigh at 12 p.m. at the newly renovated Arute Field. The game will air live on Fox Sports Radi 1410, and online at FoxSportsRadio1410.com.
