Haid Named Finalsit for Riley Wallace Award
Devin Haid of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team was recognized as a finalist for the Riley Wallace Award it was announced by CollegeInsider.com. The award is presented annually to the most impactful transfer in division I college basketball.
Haid enjoyed an outstanding season at CCSU after transferring from Notre Dame College. He earned Second Team All-Northeast Conference honors and was named to the NEC All-Tournament Team in his first season with the Blue Devils. A four-time Player of the Week, the junior guard averaged 14.2 points, and 5.6 rebounds to go with 67 assists and 51 steals. He ranked among the league's top-10 in scoring (6th) and rebounding (8th), as well as, free throw percentage (4th, .847), field goal percentage (5th, .493) and steals (6th, 1.6). He topped 20 points in seven contests, including a career-high 29 points in a win over FDU to propel the Blue Devils to the NEC championship game. He posted a pair of double-doubles, including a 24-point, 12-rebound outing at Rhode Island. He was named Player of the Week in three straight weeks from Dec. 9-23 when he was also named a Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week by the USBWA on Dec. 10.
The award is named in honor of the longtime Hawaii coach. During his coaching career at Hawaii, Riley Wallace welcomed many transfers into the program and became the winningest coach in program history. Wallace guided Hawaii to nine postseason appearances, including a school-record streak of four straight from 2001-04.
The Warriors appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times under Wallace and have been invited to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on six occasions. Prior to his arrival, the program had just one NCAA appearance and two trips to the NIT.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.
The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, TX, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
