Central 6th on Final Leader Board at Yale

The Central Connecticut men's golf team placed sixth at the Yale/Macdonald Cup after the tournament's closing round on Sunday.  The Blue Devils (279/296/575) led the tournament field on Saturday but fell to sixth place after the final round.

For the second straight year, host Yale (282/282/564) came away from the Yale/Macdonald Cup as tournament champions followed by Hartford (283/284/567) and St. John's (280/287/567) who shared the runner-up spot.  Nationally ranked Notre Dame (282/287/569) came in fourth and rounded out the top five with fifth place Harvard (283/289/572) of the Ivy League.

The Course at Yale, a par-70 course, played 6,749 yards this weekend.  The tournament kicked-off on Saturday, September 29th with the first round and finished on Sunday, September 30th with the second and final round.  Yale's home course is located in nearby New Haven, CT.

Senior Captain Dan Fanion (67/72/139) wrote in the best score for a Blue Devil on Sunday posting a 72.  He finished second overall (-1) on the individual leader board, just one stroke off of the tournament champion Niall Platt (68/70/138) of Notre Dame.  Fanion Did not lose his second place ranking as he was positioned there after the first round when he inked an impressive 67 on Saturday, a season best.

After holding the top spot on the individual leader board after round one, sophomore Monte Mullen (66/75/141) fell to an 11th place tie on Sunday writing in a 75.  He ended up finishing one stroke over-par for the tournament.

Senior Greg Beloin (73/75/148) finished tied for 39th (+8), sophomore Kevin Jud (76/74/150) placed tied for 52nd (+10), and senior Matthew DeJohn (73/78/151) finished tied for 58th (+11).

Sacred Heart (297/292/589) was the only other Northeast Conference school in competition and Central placed ahead of the Pioneers by 25 strokes.  The Blue Devils beat out seventh place Rhode Island (291/287/578) by three strokes and St. Edward's (287/293/580) in the eight spot by five strokes.

Central Connecticut will return to the links next week as they play for the UCONN/Connecticut Cup October 8th through the 9th.
