Men's Golf Fourth, Mullen Takes Second

The Central Connecticut men's golf team finished fourth at the Lafayette Invitational with a team score of 607 over the two-day event. Today's round concluded the two-day, 36-hole tournament.

Lafayette hosted the tournament that was hosted at North Hampton Country Club in Easton, PA.  The par-72 course played 6,393 through two rounds.

Lehigh (303/294/597) topped the team leader board winning the event with a 294 on Monday.  Drexel (307/297/604) and Iona (312/293/605) were the only two teams that placed ahead of fourth place Central (303/304/607) finishing second and third.  Army (305/305/610) and Hofstra (307/303/610) tied for fifth and rounded out the field's top-five.

Sophomore Monte Mullen (74/70/144) placed second in the individual competition with a two-day score of 144.  Mullen posted an impressive 70 in Monday's second round to seal his third top-ten finish of the season.  The sophomore climed the individual leader board from his fourth place standing on Sunday to second on Monday, placing just one stroke behind of the tournament's individual winner Christopher Crawford (72/71/143) from Drexel.

Senior Captain Dan Fanion (75/75/150) proved consistent on both days writing in back-to-back 75's.  Fanion finished tied for 14th place at +6.  Senior Matthew DeJohn (75/79/154) finished +10 to give him a share of 24th place individually.  DeJohn showed his best round score of the tournament on Sunday registering a 75, followed by a 79 today.

Freshman Jack Ayers (79/80/159) tied for 50th place and ended his tournament at +15.  Sophomore Kevin Jud (79/83/162) placed 70th individually.

Up next for the Blue Devils will be the New England Championships at Newport National Country Club in Newport, RI.  Central will enter the tournament as the two-time reigning New England Champion, winning the event in 2012 and 2011.  The tournament is scheduled for April 13th and 14th.
