Central and Stony Brook Draw 1-1 in 2 OT's

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Stony Brook in a close game that went into double overtime.  The Blue Devils are now 2-4-1 on the season after the decision, Stony Brook moves to 6-2-1 overall.

Senior Jesse Menzies scored his second goal of the season, the fourth of his career, in the game's 44th minute.  Teammate Eddy Bogle fed Menzies on a cross to the right box, the senior then beat the defender to put the game's first goal in the top right of the net past the keeper.

The Blue Devils defense proved to be withstanding holding the Seawolves scoreless going into the half and for the majority of the second period.

Stony Brook answered late in the second half as Leonardo Fernandez scored his sixth goal of the season beating the Central defender on an individual move (Martin Giordano assist).  Fernandez punched the score into the far right side of the net past Central keeper senior Anthony Occhialini.  The goal came in the 86th minute of play, just before the end of regulation.

Occhialini made a crucial save in the game's 87th minute, just minutes before the end of regulation.  The shot came off of Stony Brook's Sverre Ofstad, a score which could have put the Seawolves up by a goal and potentially seal a Stony Brook win.

Overtime period number one went the full 10 minutes without a score from either team.  Central recorded two total shots while the Seawolves shot the ball just once.  The only shot on goal attempted in either overtime period came from senior Reece Wilson in the second overtime (101st minute).  His effort was saved by Stony Brook keeper Stefan Manz.

Central Connecticut overwhelmed Manz in goal, out-shooting the Seawolves nine shots to three for the game.  Occhialini managed to save two of Stony Brook's three shots playing every minute in goal for the Blue Devils.

Central returns to action on Wednesday, September 26th as they travel to New Jersey to face the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.  Rutgers is 3-3 (0-1 Big East) on the season.
