Senior Cierra Ward and sophomore Morgan Tullar were named to the Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team for their performance in CCSU's semifinal loss to Bryant on Friday afternoon. Ward and Tullar both had strong performances for the Blue Devils in the program's first postseason game.
Tullar posted 13 saves and limited the Bryant offense to 11 goals. Tullar's performance kept the Bulldogs, the NEC's best scoring offense, below their season average for goals. She also picked up a ground ball and caused a turnover in the game.
Ward, a key member of the CCSU's defense all season, posted two ground balls and a caused turnovers in the game. She was active on defense throughout the game and was the spark behind CCSU's game tying goal in the second half. Ward broke up a pass at midfield then gathered in the loose ball to start CCSU's offense possession, which quickly resulted in the goal that tied the game at 7-7.
Despite the 11-10 loss to Bryant in the semifinals, the Blue Devils finished a record setting 2013 season with a school record nine victories and seven NEC victories. The NEC Tournament appearance was the first for CCSU women's lacrosse.
