Three Blue Devils from the Central Connecticut women's track and field team were named to the 2013 Northeast Conference Outdoor All-Conference team Tuesday for their performances at the 2013 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May. Junior Elizabeth Eberhardt and sophomore Ronea Saunders earned second team honors while freshman Chelse Terry was named to the All-Rookie team.
Eberhardt, who broke the outdoor CCSU record in the both the 3000m and the steeplechase this season, ran a 10:39.34 in the steeplechase event at the NEC Championships for second place to earn her spot on the second team. Eberhardt set a CCSU record of 10:37.64 in the event at the Penn Relays in April. She was also named named NEC Track Athlete of the Week on April 30.
Saunders, who set the outdoor CCSU record in the high jump last season as a freshman, cleared a height of 1.74 meters (5' 8.5") at the NEC Championships. Her mark was good for second place and was just shy of her own personal best height of 5' 8.75" which she earned last season. Saunders was named NEC Field Athlete of the Week on April 2 following an impressive indoor season in which she earned the weekly honor twice and was also named the NEC Most Outstanding Field Athlete for her first-place indoor NEC performance.
Terry earns the first NEC award of her career with her placement on the All-Rookie team. The freshman thrower registered a distance of 41.33 meters in the discus event at the NEC Championships, good for fourth place. Terry also competed in the shot put and hammer throw events.
