Central Connecticut volleyball freshman Makenna Lommori was named Molten/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. She also picked up her first NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor for her performance over the weekend at the Temple Invitational. The NEC made the announcement on Monday in its weekly report.
Lommori was named the "Best Setter" at the Temple Invitational after recording 100 assists and a 9.09 assist/set average over three matches last week. She contributed match totals of 39, 37 and 24 assists, while also helping the offense with 12 kills and four aces.
On defense, Lommori displayed her well rounded game with 30 digs and 14 total blocks. Lommori opened the weekend with 12 digs and 6.0 blocks against Temple. The following day against Cornell she picked up nine digs and again had 6.0 blocks, but with two solo blocks. She completed the weekend with nine digs and 2.0 blocks against Navy.
For the season, Lommori has 391 assists and a 7.67 assist/set average. Over the last two weeks she is averaging 9.35 assists/set. She has also contributed 58 kills, 14 aces, 115 digs and 35 blocks this season.
Lommori and the Blue Devils will return to action this weekend with a pair of NEC road matches. Central will play at St. Francis (NY) on Saturday and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
