Volleyball Tops FDU, 2-0 in NEC Play

The Central Connecticut volleyball team is now 2-0 in Northeast Conference play after a 3-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon.  CCSU dropped the opening set, but rebounded by winning the next three sets.  The Blue Devils (7-8, 2-0 NEC) were led by senior Blaike King who recorded 13 kills in the match.

Senior Jamie Rademacher, senior Emily Cochran and sophomore Rachel Dunlap all finished with 10 kills to join King in double digits.  Dunlap and Rademacher anchored the Blue Devils' net defense, which recorded 13.5 blocks in the match.

The Blue Devils won their sets 25-11, 25-20 and 25-13, after falling by just two points in the first set (25-23).

The Blue Devils used long scoring runs to open large leads in the second and fourth sets. CCSU opened the second with an 11-1 run and started the fourth set with a 9-1 advantage.

Freshman Makenna Lommori recorded a match-high 44 assists.  Lommori also had seven kills in the match.  Senior Jennifer Waddill also finished with seven kills and contributed to six blocks.

Ten Blue Devils recorded a dig in the match led by Cochran.  Cochran posted 16, followed by sophomore Brittany Schumacher with 14 and King who recorded 10.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, September 29, against Robert Morris.  The following day the Blue Devils will host Saint Francis (PA).  Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and are the first home NEC contests of the season for CCSU.
