Central Connecticut softball's Kat Malcolm and Evie Rentzel earned Northeast Conference accolades for their impressive performances this past week, the league announced Monday. The Blue Devils went 5-1 over the week, earning two wins at home against Yale and taking three of four games on the road at the Hampton Tournament in Hampton, VA.
Malcolm, who earned NEC Co-Player of the Week, was instrumental in the Blue Devils' successful week as she scored 10 of 39 runs for Central in six games. She posted a .565 batting average while slugging .820.
The sophomore was especially explosive behind the plate on Saturday, March 9 against Siena and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
She accumulated three hits and three runs in four at bats in the 9-4 win over Siena and racked up four hits in four at bats, including a three-run homer to give her a grand total of five RBI for the game. In her last three games, she has totaled four steals and over the week, she totaled 15 hits, six RBI and two home runs.
Rentzel, NEC Rookie of the Week, started all six games for Central this week and totaled six RBI with a .526 batting average and .789 slugging percentage. She belted two triples, one double and 10 of her 12 career hits. The freshman also posted four runs and a stolen base, and yielded a perfect fielding percentage.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday, March 13 at Hartford for a double header. The first game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
