The Central Connecticut softball team is set to open 2013 conference play at Wagner (4-15) in a doubleheader this Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. The doubleheader is the first of two back-to-back NEC competitions as the Blue Devils will also face LIU Brooklyn (4-25) on Sunday.

Last year, the Blue Devils swept the Seahawks 8-0 in five innings and 2-1 in seven. This season, Wagner posts a .234 batting average compared to .290 for CCSU. The Seahawks have driven in 49 runs and hit four home runs in 19 games compared to 79 Blue Devil runs and 11 homers in 17 games.

Central's record is 8-9 headed into the weekend.

The Blue Devils were swept by 2011 NEC Champion LIU Brooklyn last season in two close match-ups, dropping both games by two runs or less. The Blackbirds have plated 70 runs and earned 65 RBI so far this season in comparison to 69 RBI by CCSU. LIU Brooklyn has hit three home runs and currently maintains a .225 batting average.

Saturday's games against Wagner are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fans can watch both games live, for free, on NECFrontRow or follow live stats. Sunday's games will also be broadcast live, for free, on NECFrontRow.

The Blue Devils will return home next week to play Holy Cross on Wednesday and face-off against Bryant for more NEC action on Friday.
