Greenhouse, McIntyre Shine on St. Patrick's Day

Senior lefthander Jack Greenhouse improved to 2-1 on the season with an impressive complete game victory 7-1 victory on the road at High Point University on Sunday.  The Central Connecticut baseball team grabbed the series finale against the Panthers, using eight hits to score seven runs.

Senior first baseman Tyler McIntyre had a huge day at the plate for the Blue Devils going 4-for-5 with five RBI and his second home run of the season.  He also had a double and a pair of singles.

With the win the Blue Devils improve to 5-6 overall on the season.  They are scheduled to play Hartford on Tuesday afternoon at home, before opening league play on Friday with a weekend series vs. Fairleigh Dickinson at home.

After a scoreless first two innings the Blue Devils got on the board with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead.

After a pair of errors to put two runners on base for the Blue Devils, McIntyre doubled in both runners to give Central the 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, junior Josh Ingham led off the inning with a single and went to second on a single from classmate Dylan DelaCruz.   Senior Nick Palmisano singled and plated the first run of the inning, making it 3-0.  Junior J.P. Sportman's sacrifice fly scored the second run of the inning.  McIntyre came to the plate with two runners on, and singled to center field.  A fielding error by the center fielder allowed the third run of the inning to score, giving Central the 5-0 edge.

The lead went to 6-0 in the top of the seventh when McIntyre belted his second home run of the season.  His fourth RBI of the game, and 14th of the season, made it 6-0.

McIntyre drove in his fifth run of the game in the top of the ninth inning.  With men on second and third, McIntyre hit a ball to shallow left field and it dropped in between the left fielder and shortstop.  It was ruled an error, but he was credited with the RBI on the play, making it 7-0.

Greenhouse pitched the third complete game of his career to record his second win of the season and the 11th of his career.  He scattered eight hits while striking out two and allowing just one ninth inning run.  He forced 19 groundouts and faced just 35 batters in the game, walking two.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Tuesday hosting Hartford on the CCSU Baseball Field.  They will open conference play on Friday when Fairleigh Dickinson comes to New Britain for a weekend series.
