Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Saint Joseph's
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a doubleheader on the road at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon, losing game one 9-4 and dropping game two 2-1. The losses drop the Blue Devils to 3-3 on the season. They return to action on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at Villanova.
In game one it was a big fifth inning by the Hawks proved to be the difference in the final score. Saint Joseph's scored eight runs in the inning, eventually chasing Central senior starter Jack Greenhouse from the game.
Greenhouse fell to 1-1 on the season pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Senior Mike Washburn had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils. Junior J.P. Sportman added an RBI, as did senior Tyler McIntyre and sophomore Dominic Severino. Both McIntyre and Severino had two hits in the game, along with sophomore catcher Ryan Beal.
Central took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning of game two. McIntyre's RBI single scored junior Dylan Delacruz who had singled and then stole second base.
The Hawks answered with a pair of runs off of Blue Devil starter sophomore Cody Brown in the bottom of the inning. Brown would go six innings and allow just the two runs, along with eight hits and four strikeouts. He is now 1-1 on the season.
Junior Tom Coughlin pitched two innings and struck out four without allowing a run.
The pair of losses drops the Blue Devils to 3-3 on the season. They will play at Villanova in a single game on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.
