Baseball Clipped by Stony Brook on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a midweek contest to Stony Brook, 6-1, on Tuesday at CCSU Baseball Field. The teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning, before SBU used a four-run sixth inning to muster all the offense it would need on the day.

KEY MOMENTS
- The traded runs in the first inning with Stony Brook pushing across a run on back-to-back doubles by Nico Azpilcueta and Chanz Doughty. Central would respond in the bottom half of the inning by loading the bases with one out. Gianno Merlonghi would hit a fly ball to right field to plate a run and make it 1-1.
- Merlonghi would lead off the fourth with a triple for CCSU, but a pair of strikeouts and a line out would leave him stranded and the game tied.
- In the fifth, Chris Carson led off with a single for SBU and moved to third on a stolen base and an errant throw. He scored on a ground out by Brett Davino to make it 2-1.
- The Seawolves loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. Scott Gell singled through the left side to drive in two runs. Carson followed with a RBI-groundout and an error allowed another run to score to make it 6-1.
- CCSU threatened in the seventh, loading the bases on a pair of walks and a hit batter with two outs. Aidan Redahan made contact on a liner headed over third base, but Davino made a leaping grab to snag the ball and end the CCSU threat.
NOTES
- Merlonghi, Redahan, Brady Short and Louis Jordan accounted for Central's hits.
- Jacob Hines scattered five hits over 5.0 innings. He allowed one earned run and struck out three.
- CCSU 8-14 all-time against Stony Brook.
