Clark Named To Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List
Award is presented annually to top defensive player in FCS
Kimal Clark, junior defensive back for the Central Connecticut State football team, is one of 30 student-athletes named to the 30th anniversary season of the Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award kicks off with a 30-player preseason watch list. Clark is the only player from the NEC named to the watch list, which includes players from all 13 FCS conferences.
BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD WATCH LIST ANNOUNCEMENT
The 2024 Buchanan Award will be presented after the season to the national defensive player of the year in Division I FCS college football. The award is named for legendary defensive lineman Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State as part of his Hall of Fame career.
Clark, a Preseason All-NEC selection, is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he was named All New-England and First-Team All-NEC. He finished the year with 89 tackles, and his 8.9 tackles per game ranked second in the league and 32nd in FCS rankings. Clark averaged 5.3 solo stops per game, 17th nationally and tops among NEC players. He had a season-high 15 tackles, 10 solo, in the season-finale and finished the campaign with four double-digit tackle games.
The Blue Devils, who opened practice Wednesday morning, begin the 2024 campaign on Thursday, August 29th at Central Michigan, before hosting Fordham in the home opener, Saturday, September 7th. Season tickets for the 2024 season are currently on sale by clicking here.
