Jean Earns National And Conference Weekly Honors
Redshirt freshman is the FCS National Defensive Player of the Week and the NEC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
Christopher Jean, redshirt freshman for the Central Connecticut State football team was named StatsPeform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The defensive back also earned Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week. He was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Elijah Howard and Davone Walden, Jr.
Jean, a native of Rochester, NY, tied a school record with three interceptions in the Blue Devils win over #19 Duquesne on Saturday. The effort is tied for the most interceptions in a single-game in FCS play this season. Jean also led the Blue Devils with seven tackles, six solo, as the CCSU defense held Duquesne to its lowest FCS points output of the year.
A graduate of Rochester High School, Jean leads the NEC in both interceptions per game, 19th nationally, and fumbles recovered, 2nd nationally. He has defended 10 passes this year, ranking 20th in FCS with 1.1 per game, with his seven pass breakups and three interceptions. Jean has made 30 tackles this fall, including 2.5 TFL. He has forced a pair of fumble and recovered four fumbles, returning one for a touchdown in the come from behind win over Robert Morris.
Howard accumulated 122 all-purpose yards in the win over Duquesne. He rushed for 110 yards including both CCSU touchdowns and caught a pass for a successful two-point conversion. Walden, Jr. played a role in the Blue Devils seven interceptions Saturday, coming away with two picks of his own, including one in the endzone in the closing minutes of the game. He finished with four tackles, including 2.0 TFL.
The Blue Devils, 7-5 overall, won the NEC Championship with its 21-14 win over Duquesne on Saturday, improving to 5-1 in NEC play. CCSU travels to 10th seeded Rhode Island on Saturday, November 30th, for the FCS Playoffs.
