Golda Sets Shotput Record To Highlight Blue Devils Day At Scarlet Knights Open

The Central Connecticut men's track and field team was in New York City on Friday, participating in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Open. The event was hosted at the NYC Armory. 

Greyson Golda's school record in the shot put, a throw of 17.25, highlighted a strong showing from the Blue Devils.

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS 

• Lucas Figueiredo placed second in the 400m dash, running 48.60, with KyMoy Phillip in third at 49.18 and Maxwell Czarnecki was ninth in a time of 50.47 

• Steven Ives was third at 15:13.80 in the 5000, followed by Joe Lauria at 15:28.09 to finish fourth 

• Salvatore Masciarelli claimed fourth place in the college mile, running 4:09.40, with Tyler Safstrom running 4:29.15 

• Figueiredo ran 22.18 in the 200m, the fastest of eight Blue Devils entered in the event and fifth in the standings while Tristan Burke ran to an eighth-place finish at 22.35 

• Burke placed sixth in the 60m dash, running 6.93, .04 faster than his preliminary effort 

• In the 60m hurdles, Kenny Agwu and Juleen Lopez clocked times of 8.71 and 8.74, respectively, in the prelims. 

• Jordan Jackson ran 7.26 in the 60m dash, while Nasir Johnson crossed at 7.40 in the unseeded field 

• Ryan Dunning was the top CCSU finisher in the 600m, placing 13th with a time of 1:23.53. Ivan Timochko placed 16th with a time of 1:24.81 

• Tyler Safstrom finished 14th in the 800m with a run of 1:58.86 

• Michael Kraszewski was the top collegiate finisher, second overall, in the 500m with a run of 15:07.53 as six Blue Devils placed in the top-eight spots 

• Nick Fusco (15:35.73), Andrew Hedges (15.37.58) and Logan Crowley (15:40.46) finished in a pack to round out the team's effort in the 5000m 

• Timochko, Dunning, Safstrom and Jack Slavinsky combined to run 3:30.10 to place fifth in the 4x400 relay 

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS 

• Golda won the championship field of the shot put with his record throw, that broke his mark of 17.24 set on January 17th 

• Alex Figueriedo had a top jump of 6.53m to earn ninth in the college long jump 

• Tristan Smith finished fifth in the shot put, with a 15.10m effort in the championship field, while Quincy Davis was second in the college field with a throw of 14.15m 

• Slavinsky cleared 3.53m in the pole vault, to earn 14th in the standings 

• The Blue Devils had three of the top five finishers in the championship weight throw. Greyson Golda (18.67m) was third, followed by Angelo Pisacreta (16.08m) in fourth and Nicholas Xavier (15.72m) in fifth. 

• Braden Johnson won the college weight throw with a top mark of 15.54m. 

• Braeden Christopher and Thomas Hooks both cleared 1.90m in the high jump, placing seventh and eighth respectively
