Figueiredo Named NEC Track Athlete Of The Week
Blue Devils have four NEC Prime Performer selections
For the second time this season, Central Connecticut State sprinter Lucas Figueiredo was named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week. He was one of four Blue Devils that earned NEC Prime Performer, being joined by Jayden Brown, Aiden Budge and Greyson Golda.
Figueiredo earned the accolade after running the fastest 400m dash in the NEC this season at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday. His time of 47.89 is a school record, lowering his own mark of 48.16 from last season. Figueiredo is the only NEC runner this season to run sub 49 in the 400m. The sophomore also helped the Blue Devils 4x400 relay to a fifth-place finish, running a 47.22 split on the relay.
Brown ran 49.15 in the 400m dash, the second fastest time in the NEC, and then ran the second leg (49.94) on the 4x400 relay, that posted the top time in the league this winter.
Budge finished 13th in the 800m with the fastest NEC performance of the year, going 1:52.11
Golda set a school record in the weight throw, with his 19.04 effort breaking a 48-year-old record.
The Blue Devils return to competition on Friday, February 6th when they travel to the Rutgers Invite at the NYC Armory.
