Men's Track & Field Wins Second Straight NEC Indoor Championship
The Central Connecticut State men's track and field team won its second straight team title at the 2026 NEC Indoor Championships on Monday. The Blue Devils finished with 141 points, well ahead of Stonehill's 104 points.
The Blue Devils won six gold medals in Monday's events. James Sullivan and Greyson Golda each won their second medals of the meet. Sullivan was named the Most Valuable Performer of the Meet and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance). Golda was named Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws), while Lucas Figueiredo earned Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints).
The championship is the fourth for CCSU, in addition to being its second straight.

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
- Tristan Burke was narrowly edged in the 60m dash and claimed silver with a time of 6.88.
- Kenny Agwu scored in the 60m hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 8.69.
- Lucas Figueiredo won the 400m finals in a time of 47.74.
- Aidan Budge took gold for the Blue Devils in the mile run, turning in a time of 4:09.27. Joe Lauria also scored for CCSU, placing eighth with a time of 4:20.38.
- Gabriel Kwarteng won the 500m dash with a time of 1:03.91 and Maxwell Czarnecki placed eighth (1:07.39).
- Budge would place eighth in the 800m run with a time of 2:03.47.
- Figueiredo and Burke would both score in the 200m dash. Figueiredo won silver with a time of 21.73, while Burke placed eighth at 22.40.
- The Blue Devils had three of the top four finishers in the 5000m run. James Sullivan won in 14:30.12, while Brendan Mellitt (14:32.98) and Mark Rodriguez (14:37.88) placed third and fourth, respectively.
- Central took silver in the 4,000m Distance Medley Relay. The team of Thomas Flanders IV, Czarnecki, Ryan Dunning, and Salvatore Masciarelli had a time of 10:12.94.
- The 4x400 relay of Kymoy Phillip, Figueiredo, Cory Bates II and Kwarteng took gold in 3:17.43.
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
- John Slavinsky placed eighth to score in the pole vault at a height of 3.50m.
- Greyson Golda won his second field event of the meet, taking first in the shot put with a mark of 18.26m. Tristan Smith placed sixth at 15.29m.
