Pool Record Highlights Swimming & Diving's Friday Night Sprints Showing
O'Leary, Cowing, Young and Dunnigan broke the record set in 2020
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team had numerous strong showings on Friday night at Suydam Natatorium on Friday evening.
The highlight of the night came in the final event when the Blue Devils broke the pool record in the 200-freestyle relay. Katrine O'Leary. Lauryn Cowing, Grace M. Young and Megan Dunnigan won the event in a time of 1:37.12, lowering the previous mark (set in 2020 by the Blue Devils) 1:37.40.
The Blue Devils return to action the first weekend of December. The swimmers will be at the Gompei Invitational hosted by WPI, while the divers will compete at the ECAC Winter Classic at Nassau County Aquatic Center.
RELAYS
- Addison Kenney (27.44), Grace Young (30.97), Lauryn Cowing (26.16) and Grace M. Young (24.49) won the 200-medley relay with a swim of 1:49.50, while the squad of Sophie Milhomens (27.61), Kate Suchowiecki (31.30), Megan Dunnigan (26.17) and Gabby Spaciano (25.61) were second at 1:50.69
- The Blue Devils also claimed second in the 200 free relay as Spaciano (26.23), Suchowiecki (25.68), Francesca Fusco (25.87) and Izzy Vega (26.92) finished in a time of 1:44.70
DIVING
- Diving was a two-person relay, with each diver completing three dives on the 1-meter board
- Jewelle Maziarz and Adriana Waton combined for 253.3 points to take the top spot, while Kaitlyn Carroll and Rachel Giroux were second at 215.3 points
STROKES
- Sophie Milhomens was the winner of the 50-backstroke, in a swim of 27.81, with Grace M. Young second at 28.83 and Jillena Plowucha third at 30.91
- Dunnigan took the top spot in the 100-butterfly, stopping the clock at 1:01.81
- Kyla Behrle touched second in the 100-fly, at 1:01.81, with Loretta Santora (1:02.29) third and Veronica Okurowski (1:03.44) fourth
- Lauren Lord won the 100-breastroke with a swim of 1:14.93
- Hannah Kretkowski was the winner of the 50-butterfly, clocking a 27.59 with Behrle (27.72) and Plowucha (27.90) close behind
- Okurowski was the fourth finisher with a swim of 28.42 and Vega placed fifth in 29.08
- Santora took the top spot in the 100-backstroke, going 1:03.95, with Spaciano second in a swim of 1:04.38
- Grace Young led the Blue Devils to the top five finishes in the 50-breaststroke with a time of 31.50, and was followed by Kenney who touched in a time of 32.40, which was .02 in front of Suchowiecki
- O'Leary (34.14) and Sophia Pincince (35.40) rounded out the 50-breastroke group
- Kenney took home the top spot in the 100 IM, touching at 1:00.21
- Behrle (1:06.77) and Lord (1:06.82) had a tight battle for the second spot and Gabi Wroblewski placed fourth at 1:07.96
FREESTYLE
- O'Leary took the top spot in the 50-freestyle in a swim of 24.56, with Milhomens second at 26.21 and Wroblewski third at 29.25
- Maggie Rutledge took the top-spot in the 200-freestyle, with a swim of 1:59.62
- Francesca Fusco was second in the 200-freestyle at 2:00.75 and Hannah Kretkowski was third in a time of 2:01.88, with Sophia Pincince fifth at 2:05.96
- Rutledge went on to win the 100-freestyle as well, cruising to the stop spot with a time of 56.19
