Swimming & Diving In Action For Mid-Winter Competition
O'Leary silver in 50 free was top finish
The Central Connecticut State swim team was in action at two meets on Friday. The swimmers completed the first day of competition at the Gompei Invitational. The meet is hosted by WPI and the team accumulated 801 points on the day.
The divers were in action on Long Island, competing at the ECAC Winter Classic.
Both squads are in action again on Saturday, with the swimmers wrapping up their weekend of competition on Sunday.
RELAYS
- The Blue Devils swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200-medley relay, going 1:48.59, with Addison Kenney, Grace Young, Lauryn Cowing and Katrine O'Leary on the relay
- The B relay of Sophie Milhomens, Katie Suchowiecki, Megan Dunnigan and Grace M. Young, finished seventh at 1:50.31
- Dunnigan, Gabby Spaciano, Milhomens and Maggie Rutledge captured silver in the 800-freestyle relay, going 7:49.56, just .04 from the top spot
- The B Relay was seventh at 8:07.46, with Francesca Fusco, Lauren Lord, Hannah Kretkowski and Grace M. Young on the relay
200 IM
- Kenney took seventh in the event, going 2:11.81, while Megan Dunnigan was 2:12.46 to finish in ninth place
- Grace Young was more than two seconds faster than her preliminary swim, finishing 17th with a time of 2:17.43, while Gabi Wroblewski was 19th at 2:20.01
- Loretta Santora touched in 27th place with a swim of 2:21.40 and Kyla Behrle was 28th at 2:21.58
50 FREESTYLE
- O'Leary tied for silver, going 24.36 Friday evening, just in front of Grace M. Young at 24.62 who was fourth
- Cowing touched seventh with a swim of 25.11 and Gabby Spaciano touched 22nd in a time of 25.74
500 FREESTYLE
- Maggie Rutledge was the team's top finisher, dropping 5.5 seconds from her prelim swim to capture third place with a time of 5:08.23 and Milhomens was 10th in a time of 5:19.43
- Spaciano captured the B-Final, touching at 5:17.20 to place 11th, with Lauren Lord 17th at 5:25.61 and Hannah Kretkowski was 19th at 5:27.95
- Izzy Bega was nine seconds faster than her morning swim to move up to 22nd place with a time of 5:23.23 and Sophia Pincince placed 29th at 5:36.57
200 BREASTSTROKE
- Grace Young was the fifth finisher in the event, clocking a time of 2:27.60, after posting a 2:26.63 morning effort
- Veronica Okurowski was 12th, dropping time from her prelim effort and touching at 2:31.82 and Gabi Wroblewski was 20th at 2:44.21
- Vega was nearly three seconds faster Friday night, touching at 2:34.78
100 BUTTERFLY
- Megan Dunnigan (59.89) and Kretkowksi (1:00.18) placed 12th and 13th and were both faster than their morning swims
- Cowing placed 17th in a time of 1:00.72 and Kenney was 19th going 1:04.53
- Francesca Fusco placed atop the C Final, with a swim of 1:01.17 with Jillena Plowucha 23rd at 1:02.03 and Behrle finished 28th in a time of 1:02.53
DIVING
- Jewelle Maziarz placed fourth on the 1-meter board, scoring 248.80 points Friday
- Kaitlyn Carroll was sixth in finals, scoring 235.30 points
- Rachel Giroux scored 168.35 points in prelims, and was 11th
