Milhomens Win Highlights Final Day At Gompei Invitational

The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team concluded its weekend at the Gompei Invitational at WPI. The Blue Devils finished with 2,421.5 points over the three-day competition.

The Blue Devils will next be in action on Sunday, December 14th at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships.

RELAYS

• Katrine O'Leary (53.66), Lauryn Cowing (53.37), Grace M. Young (52.37) and Megan Dunnigan (53.81) captured silver in the 400-freestyle relay, clocking a 3:34.11
• Gabby Spaciano (55.30), Sophie Milhomens (55.19), Francesca Fusco (55.60) and Maggie Rutledge (55.13) were good for 8^th place as a squad, at 3:41.22

100 FREESTYLE

• O'Leary and Grace M. Young were fourth and fifth in the 100-freestyle, touching at 53.07 and 53.67 respectively
• Gabby Spaciano (55.01) finished 12th and Maggie Rutledge touched 26th in a time of 56.12

200 BACKSTROKE

• Sophie Milhomens and Rutledge took home gold and silver in a tight race between the duo, going 2:05.07 and 2:05.85
• Fusco also swam in the A-Final, finishing in sixth place at 2:10.24
• Loretta Santora gave the Blue Devils a 19^th place finish, at 2:16.99 and Mackenzie Talbot finished 23^rd at 2:16.36 to round out the event

100 IM

• O'Leary gave the Blue Devils a fifth-place finish in the 100 IM, clocking in a 1:01.35
• Lauren Lord (1:06.98) and Jillena Plowucha (1:07.78) were 25^th and 28^th

200 BUTTERFLY

• Sophie Milhomens shaved nearly four seconds off her qualifying swim to win the B-Final, in 2:13.30
• Plowucha shaved nearly seven seconds off at night, going 2:15.57 to finish 12^th and Kyle Behrle was 1.4 seconds faster, 2:18.28, to earn 13^th and Lauren Lord placed 20^th at 2:23.63

50 BREASTSTROKE

• Grace Young captured bronze with a finals swim of 31.09
• Veronica Okurowsi touched at 32.22, nearly a full second faster than the morning swim to finish 13^th and Katie Suchowiecki was 15^th at 32.31

1,650 FREESTYLE

• Rutledge added a bronze in the 1,650, going 17:52.93 Sunday night
• Sophia Pincince posted a time of 18:44.08 in her mile, finishing 14^th, in front of teammate Izzy Vega, who finished 15^th in 18:45.64
• Hannah Kretkowski gave the Blue Devils an 18:58.95 effort, good for 19th
