Swimming & Diving Sweeps NEC Weekly Awards
Maziarz, Rutledge and Kenney take top honors.
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team swept the NEC weekly awards and had four student-athletes recognized for their efforts in the dual meet versus URI. Jewelle Maziarz was named the league's Diver of the Week, while Maggie Rutledge was tabbed the Swimmer of the Week. That pair was joined as NEC Prime Performers by Sophie Milhomens. Addison Kenney earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Maziarz wins the Diver of the Week award for the fifth time, and second week in a row. She set the school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 294.00, breaking a mark set in 2017. She went onto score 269.03 points on the 1-meter board as well.
Rutledge won the distance freestyle events in the dual meet at URI. Her winning time in the 1,000 free was 10:32.49, the fastest time in the NEC, by nearly 11 seconds, this season. She also posted a four-second win in the 500 free, going 5:13.51.
Kenney is the league's rookie of the week for the third time this season. She won the 200 IM in a time of 2:09.72, a top 10 effort in the league this winter Kenney was second in the 100 fly, going 1:00.19.
Milhomens earned her prime performer award after sweeping the backstroke races, winning the 100 at 58.21 and the 200 in 2:05.32.
The Blue Devils turn their attention to the NEC Championship, hosted at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH, February 17-20. CCSU has won a league-best nine NEC titles, including three consecutive championships.
