Hamilton, Warn Power Softball To 7-2 Win Over LIU

The Central Connecticut State softball team won its ninth consecutive NEC game, defeating LIU 7-2 Friday afternoon on CCSU Softball Field. 

The Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning but responded with three first inning runs to take command of the game. 

Skylar Warn finished 3-4 at the plate with five RBI to lead the Blue Devils offense. Liz Hamilton did not allow a LIU runner to second base after the first inning, giving up just one hit over the final six innings,  to earn the complete game win.

KEY MOMENTS 

• LIU struck first, scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning. Lily Hinkle led off with a walk and after stealing second scored on Jen Rodriguez' double to left field. Sarah Wall pinch ran and scored on the ensuing Jaedyn Lincoln double. The Sharks would load the bases, before Liz Hamilton fanned Anais Soto to strand three to end the inning. 

• The Blue Devils responded loading the bases after Wall retired the leadoff hitter. Stella Gasper singled to right to score Reagan Vunak, but Ava Cino was cutdown by left fielder Devon Medina. Josyln Teal singled to reload the bases and Warn singled to right field to drive home two runs to give CCSU the 3-2 lead. 

• CCSU built another run in the third when Teal worked a one-out walk and advanced into scoring position on a Warn single. Sophia LoPiccolo singled to right to score teal and make the score 4-2. 

• LIU put a runner on first in the fourth inning, but Vunak cut her down trying to steal second to end the inning. 

• The Blue Devils added three insurance runs in the sixth inning, loading the bases with two outs. Warn drove a double to the wall in left center to clear the bases and make the score 7-2. Hamilton retired the side in order to secure the win. 

NOTES 

• The 17 NEC wins is the second most in program history, trailing just the 20 wins in 2021

• Warn had a double in her 3-4 afternoon, while driving in five of the seven Blue Devil runs 

• Teal finished 2-2, reaching base four times, and scored twice 

• CCSU worked six walks on Friday afternoon 

• Both teams had one strikeout 

• Lawton was walked three times, including an intentional pass in the sixth, and scored one run for the Blue Devils 

• Wall took the loss for LIU, fiving up four runs in 4.0 innings of work, on eight hits and walking five 

• The Blue Devils stranded 10 base runners on the afternoon, while Hamilton stranded four Sharks
