Lawton, Morabito Take Home Spring NEC Scholar Athlete Honors
Lawton earns the honor in softball; Morabito for track and field
Central Connecticut State added had two student-athletes, Grace Lawton of softball and track and field's Mya Morabito, named NEC Spring Scholar Athletes on Tuesday.
The NEC also announced the 2026 Spring NEC Fall Academic (3.2 GPA) and Commissioner (3.75 GPA) Honor Rolls. Across the five spring sports: baseball, lacrosse, softball men's indoor track and field and women's indoor track and field, the Blue Devils had 128 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 43 earning Commissioner's Honor Roll, while seven student-athletes maintain 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Lawton was named NEC First-Team and All-ECAC after hitting a school-record 13 homeruns during the 2026 campaign. She also earned the Gail Rutz Award for the top senior female student-athlete at CCSU. She was the only player in the NEC with multiple home runs in a single game and posted a league-leading 45 RBI, which tied the program's single-season record. Lawton hit .385 on the season, while posting a .462 on-base percentage and a .763 slugging percentage.
Morabito helped the Blue Devils outdoor track and field team to its first NEC title since 2019. She claimed two gold medals in that championship performance, winning the 800m and 1500m. She also earned silver as the anchor on the Blue Devils 4x800m relay team at the championship. Morabito ranked fourth in the NEC in the 800 and was second fastest in the 1500m in the league, with a 4:43.63 which also ranked 74th in the Northeast.
