Softball Set to Play Wagner to Open NEC Championship
The Central Connecticut softball team will open play at the NEC Softball Championship on Thursday, May 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the LIU Softball Complex in Brooklyn, NY. CCSU has a 26-17 overall record and matched a program-record by going 20-4 in NEC play. Head coach Breanne Gleason is in her 13th season at the helm and has led CCSU to a pair of NEC championships in 2013 and '15. The Blue Devils are playing in the NEC Tournament for the fourth straight season. Under Gleason's tutelage, CCSU matched a NEC mark by having seven individuals named to the All-NEC First Team this season. Overall, nine Blue Devils earned All-NEC honors and Gleason and Pat Holden were named NEC Coaching Staff of the Year.

The four-team championship begins on Thursday, May 7, and will feature a double-elimination format, with two games Thursday, three on Friday and the championship game slated for Saturday. Top-seeded LIU and fourth-seeded Le Moyne open the championship at Noon on Thursday, with the Blue Devils and Wagner to follow.
LIU is serving as host of the championship by virtue of winning the league's regular season championship. The NEC champion will earn the league's automatic bid to compete at NCAA regionals. Central posted a 6-3 record against the NEC Tournament field during the 2026 regular season, including going 4-2 in road contests.
