Volleyball Downed by Coppin State in Season-Opener
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped its 2024 opener on Friday, falling 3-0 against Coppin State in the Red Storm Invitational. Larissa Hiemer recorded a match high 22 assists in guiding the CCSU attack.
The Blue Devils face Niagara on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Red Storm Invitational.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU raced out to a 6-2 lead in the opening set. A pair of kills by Kaylin Hadley, along with, three errors by Coppin State powered the Blue Devils charge. Central would maintain its lead throughout the set until the Eagles went on a 6-1 run and took the lead late at 22-21. A kill by Lauren Milani would pull CCSU even at 23, but CSU scored the final two points to take the set.
- A kill by Milani and two more by Hadley would spur the Blue Devils to take an early 5-1 lead in the second set, forcing a CSU timeout. The Eagles responded with eight unanswered points and took an 11-6 lead. CCSU was unable to get closer than three points the rest of the frame and Coppin State took a 2-0 lead in the match.
- CSU scored the first five points in the third set and would build a 10-2 lead. A kill by Amanda Tokam sparked a run of four straight CCSU points, including a pair of service aces by Madison Massaro-Cook to cut the deficit to 19-15. The Blue Devils were unable to get any closer as the Eagles would close out their second win of the day.

1 - The match was the first in charge at CCSU for head coach Alyssa Broccoli.
NOTES
- The programs were meeting for the first time.
- Six Blue Devils recorded a kill in the match, led by Milani who had seven kills.
- Weronika Poczynek added six kills, along with a team-high eight digs and a block.
- Millani andi Massaro-Cook each posted two service aces.
