Volleyball Falls to Fairfield at Stags Invitational

Central Connecticut dropped the opener at the Fairfield Invitational, falling 3-0 at Fairfield on Thursday night in volleyball action. Lauren Milani and Weronika Poczynek led CCSU with seven kills apiece.

Central will face Binghamton in the Stags Invitational on Friday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS

• The Stags would build a 7-3 lead in the opening set, but the Blue Devils would cut the deficit in half following back-to-back aces by Amanda Tokam. CCSU would be unable to get any closer and Fairfield would push its lead to as much as 19-10. Central would mount a late rally, scoring six straight points, following another ace by Tokam to get within 23-19 before the Stags would close the frame.
• Central was in a 7-1 deficit to start the second set. The Blue Devils would get back-to-back kills from Tokam and Poczynek as part of a spurt of three straight points to get within 18-13. After a block by Kaylin Hadley would start a run of four straight points, capped off by consecutive aces from Milani, CCSU would get within, 21-18. The Stags would regain control with four straight points to take the second set.
• Hadley opened the third set with back-to-back kills for CCSU, but Fairfield would use a 5-1 run to go ahead 10-5. CCSU would get within 16-14 after Hadley and Olivia Keckler combined for a block forcing a Fairfield timeout. The Stags would respond with six straight points and would go on to win the match in straight setsa .

• CCSU leads the all-time series, 14-12, but has dropped the past two meetings.
• Poczynek added seven digs and a service ace, while Milani had six digs and two aces.
• Olivia Keckler and Larissa Hiemer each had a team-high eight digs.
• Hiemer finished with 27 assists.
• Tokam finished with four service aces.
