Baseball Finishes Sweep of UMES on Monday
The Central Connecticut State baseball team completed a sweep of its NEC series on Monday, easing by UMES, 13-6, in New Britain, CT. CCSU banged out 13 hits, including four by Antonio Ducatelli and three each by Matt Graziose and Chris Barkasy.

KEY MOMENTS
- UMES opened the scoring with an unearned run in the first inning, but Central would plate four runs in the second. Graziose led off with a single and moved to second after Brandon O'Neill drew a walk. Chris Barkasy cleared the bases with a triple to make it 2-1. Following another walk, Ducatelli hit a two-run double to push the lead to 4-1.
- The Hawks hit three straight two-out singles in the third with Diego Aponte driving in a run to make it 4-2.
- Ducatelli would collect singles in the fourth and sixth innings to drive in three more runs and make it 7-2. In the fourth inning, his two-out single drove in Barkasy. With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth he would drop a hit into left field and drive in two runs.
- Central broke the game open with a six-run eighth inning. After a UMES run in the top of the inning, Ducatelli drove in a run on an infield single to make it 8-3. Gabe Pitts would plate a run with a sacrifice fly before Graziose and Owen Arias had back-to-back singles, driving in a run apiece. Donte Valentine would hit a bases-loaded single and drive in two runs to make it 13-4.
- Darrius Brown and Jonathan Gonzalez each hit a solo homerun in the top of the ninth.
NOTES
- Ducatelli went 10-for-13 with 10 RBIs in the weekend series. He hit safely in seven straight at bats to finish the series.
- Barkasy was 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBIs.
- Graziose was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
- Valentine went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Jacob Hines (W, 1-0) started and allowed one earned run over 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
- CCSU has won 12 straight matchups in the series and is 32-0-1 all-time.
