Baseball Falls to Northeastern in Midweek Contest
The Central Connecticut State baseball team fell to Norheastern, 18-10, in a midweek non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The Blue Devils and Huskies combined for 19 hits, including seven for extra-bases, with NU taking control with a six-run fifth inning.

KEY MOMENTS
- Northeastern plated three runs in the first inning. After a leadoff double by Ryan Gerety he would score on CCSU errors. A one-out walk would bring up Anthony Ruggiero who homered to make it 3-0.
- In the bottom of the first, Gianno Merlonghi walked and moved to third on an Anthony Ducatelli single. Frankie Ferrentino would groundout to second, but it pushed the opening CCSU run across before a single by Michael Quiros drove in Ducatelli to make it 3-2.
- In the CCSU second inning, Chris Barkasy and Merlonghi hit back-to-back one-out doubles to tie up the game at 3-3.
- The Huskies regained the lead in the third and tacked on two runs in the fourth. A two out single was followed by a walk, leading to a three-run homerun by Eric Cha to make it 6-3. A two-out double by Gerety kept the fourth inning going. A pair of wild pitch and two walks would load the bases for Ruggiero, who singled in to runs to make it 8-3.
- CCSU took advantage of two errors and a hit by pitch to load the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Quiros would hit into a fielder's choice to drive in one run before the Huskies got out of the jam.
- The teams traded big innings in the fifth. In the top of the frame, Northeastern would push across six unearned runs. Will Fosberg singled in a run and Matt Brinker hit a three-run homerun to highlight the frame, pushing the NU lead to 14-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Barkasy, Ferrentino and Matt Graziose each singled in runs, and Merlonghi added a sacrifice fly to make it 14-8.
- After NU tacked on three runs, two unearned, in the top of the sixth inning, Central pushed across two runs. With two outs, Central would load the bases on two walks and a single. Ducatelli would drive in a run with a single before a bases-loaded walk to Ferrentino forced in a run to make it 17-10.
- Carmelo Musacchia hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to make it 18-10 before the game was called after the eighth inning on account of darkness.
NOTES
- Merlonghi was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Barkasy had two hits and scored three runs with an RBI.
- Ducatelli had two hits, two runs and an RBI. He has two or more hits in four straight games.
- Ferrentino had three RBIs, his second three-RBI game of the campaign.
- The teams used a combined 16 pitchers, with only throwing 2.0 innings.
- The eighth and ninth innings were the only scoreless frames.
- Northeastern has won the past 10 meetings and leads the all-time series, 26-11.
