Baseball Wins Convincingly at Coppin State on Friday
Gabe Tanous went 2-for-2 and scored four runs, while Frankie Ferrentino and Gianno Merlonghi each homered.
The Central Connecticut State baseball team opened a three-game NEC series at Coppin State with a convincing 17-4 win on Friday in Hanover, MD. The Blue Devils used a seven-run fifth inning to take control of the game, which ended after seven innings.

KEY MOMENTS
- Antonio Ducatelli drew a leadoff walk and Louis Jordan followed with a single. With one out, Frankie Ferrentino hit a homerun to left field to make it 3-0.
- CCSU drew a pair of one-out walks in the second inning before a hit by Jordan was mishandled and allowed Gabe Tanous to score and make it 4-0.
- Coppin State got a leadoff homer by Pedro Agosto in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1.
- The Blue Devils would put two runners on in the fourth, following a single and an error. Another error on a failed pickoff attempt allowed Tanous to score, which was followed by a single from Jordan to drive in Ducatelli and make it 6-1.
- CCSU would load the bases with three straight singles and two outs in the fifth inning. Jordan doubled to clear the bases and collect the first of four straight extra-base hits for Central in the inning. Nick Fox and Ferrentino followed with RBI-doubles before Merlonghi hit a homerun to make it 13-1.
- Coppin State scored runs on a wild pitch and an error in the bottom of the inning to make it 13-3
- A pair of walks put runners on in the sixth inning and Ducatelli doubled to score both runners. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for Ferrentino. He drew a walk to force in a run before a wild pitch allowed another to score.
- The Eagles got a one-out homerun from Terrell Milliner in the bottom of the seventh to make it 17-4.

- Ferrentino hit his third homerun of the year and drove in five runs.
- Merlonghi had two hits, including his third homer of the campaign.
- Salvati threw 7.0 innings and allowed just three hits. He was charged with three earned runs and struck out six.
- Jordan was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs.
- Tanous drew three walks, while going 2-for-2 with four runs.
- Ducatelli reached base three times sand drove in two runs with three runs scored.
- CCSU has won seven straight matchups and is 10-4 in the series.
