Baseball Falls to St. John's in Midweek Action
The Central Connecticut State baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup against St. John's, 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon in New Britain, CT. The game was broken open with seven runs in the middle innings by the Red Storm.
Gianno Merlonghi had two hits for the Blue Devils, while Kyle McDermott tossed 4.0 innings in a midweek start and Mason McCarroll threw 2.2 shutout innings in relief.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Red Storm took the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first. Lewis Rodriguez led off with a walk and stole second before moving to third on a groundout. Following a strikeout, a groundball was muffed allowing Rodriguez to score and extend the inning. Dylan Fitzsimmons would double to left field to drive in another run and make it 2-0.
- In the bottom of the first inning, Gabe Pitts led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Antonio Ducatelli followed with a groundball up the middle that drove in the run and he reached on an error. Back-to-back walks would load the bases before St. John's got consecutive strikeouts to end the inning.
- McDermott would only allow a pair of hits until the top of the fifth when SJU had the first four batters reach safely. A pair of hits, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch would push across four runs to make it 6-1.
- The Red Storm added three runs in the sixth inning. Dylan Fitzsimmons doubled in two runs and Sean Britt singled home another to push the lead to 9-1.
- The Blue Devils bats were limited to just four hits after the third inning. Central was only able to put a runner on third base in the fifth inning with two outs before a strikeout ended the threat.

- Merlonghi reached base three times with two singles and a walk.
- Pitts had a stolen base and Central's only extra-base hit with his first inning double.
- McDermott allowed three earned runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
- McCarroll tossed 2.2 inning and allowed just one hit.
- Noah Terzo pitched a perfect ninth inning.
- St. John's has won all three matchups between the schools.
